Victoria was born in 1915, in a small village in La Rioja, in northern Spain, when Gregorio had the idea of creating a sneaker, which he named for his first love, his wife Victoria.
The Victoria "V" has been present on their sneakers almost since they began, and the recognisable strawberry fragrance is a result of their ingenuity throughout the war, when rubber was in short supply. Looking for alternatives they decided to start to recycle tires to make them into soles. The smell of the tires was strong, and so they used a perfume with a strawberry aroma to disguise it. Since then that smell has become one of their trademarks.
